Miracle of America Museum, Kerr Dam & National Bison Range

Today we left Glacier National Park and drove south past Flathead Lake, making a stop at the Miracle of America Museum. This is a must-see if you’re in the area, as it’s a really interesting, eclectic mix of historical items. They have over 40 rooms/building inside/outside with more stuff than you could possibly see in a visit – from military tanks to vintage toys to a sheep-powered treadmill. We spent 4-5 hours there and still only saw a portion of what they have on exhibit. The museum comes highly recommended for an offbeat experience.

After that, we went to the Kerr Dam (204 feet high, which is 54 feet higher than the Niagara Falls), grabbed dinner at the Branding Iron Bar & Grill, and visited the National Bison Range, where we saw bison, elk, whitetail deer, mule deer, and pronghorn antelope. There is a scenic drive through the range, which was a good activity for a hot evening, especially when followed by ice cream.

This bison was having a good roll in a wallow, which is done to get insects off. Also, displacing lower ranking bison from the wallow is a way to assert dominance.

  1. Why am I not surprised that Phil was spending time in the Appliance Museum?
It look like the beast with large antlers had blood on them – I wouldn’t want to get in front of him….
Sounds like you’ve had a good time eating interesting cultural food.
I can’t wait to hear some of your stories when you return – safely ?
